Banana Pancakes
Story of her life: She’s still at the office, working overtime on a rainy Monday night.
Plagued by writer’s block while multiple deadlines hang over her head, she stares blankly at the desktop wallpaper of her computer. It’s a picture of bliss – a deserted beach with blinding white sand. A solitary coconut tree on the beach reaches out to the impossibly blue sky.
She gulps down her already-cold coffee. It does not relieve the hunger pangs.
From her music player, she hears Jack Johnson strum his guitar. He’s singing Banana Pancakes.
“Can’t you see that it’s just raining? There ain’t no need to go outside.”
Her mobile phone rings. It’s him. No, not Jack Johnson.
But he can make banana pancakes, too.
“It’s raining. The streets are flooded. Where are you?,” he asked.
Right here. In this jungle.
“I want to see you.”
In this weather?
Now, she can pretend it’s the weekend now. Goodbye for now, deadlines.
She’s suddenly craving for banana pancakes.
She sings as she shuts down her computer.
“You hardly even notice / When I try to show you/ This song is meant to keep you / From doing what you’re supposed to / Like waking up too early / Maybe we can sleep in / I’ll make you banana pancakes / Pretend like it’s the weekend now.”

Wonderful story. Starts out like a Monday and ends like it’s the weekend. Looking at the good things! I like it!

Thanks for the comments. Really appreciate it. I was inspired by the shortstoryslam wordle as much as the music of Jack Johnson. Great prompt. 🙂
